Scouting Report: Prince Tavizon
Overview
With Oregon hosting a loaded 2027 camp weekend, the Ducks landed a major piece for the future in EDGE rusher Prince Tavizon—a
rocked-out 6-foot-3, 240-pound wrecking ball from Northern California
powerhouse Lincoln High School. While many of the 2027s on campus this
weekend are just beginning to make names for themselves, Tavizon has
already established himself as a national prospect. The highly-coveted
defender brings a rare blend of power, explosiveness, and motor that
makes him one of the most disruptive young defenders in the country.
Physical Traits
Tavizon's frame immediately jumps off the screen. He’s already physically mature at 240 pounds, but his mass is not just bulk—it’s functional strength paired with lean power. He carries no bad weight, and his physique projects favorably as he continues to develop in a collegiate strength program. His length allows him to lock out and create separation from blockers, and his core strength makes him extremely difficult to move off his spot. While some prospects need to fill out, Tavizon is a day-one-ready athlete from a physical standpoint.
Athletic Profile
First Step/Burst:
Tavizon showcases an excellent first step off the edge. He times the
snap well and explodes into the backfield, often beating offensive
tackles before they can get fully set.
Lateral Agility:
He is surprisingly nimble for his size, showing the ability to redirect
on counters and chase plays backside. His agility allows him to work
down the line in run support without getting caught in traffic.
Closing Speed: Tavizon has true closing speed. Once he clears the blocker, he erases distance to the quarterback or ball carrier quickly. His finish ability is a major asset—when he gets his hands on you, the play ends.
Pass Rush Ability
Tavizon’s power is his calling card. He wins most often with a bull rush, driving offensive tackles into the lap of the quarterback. But he’s not a one-trick pony—he flashes hand-fighting techniques, club-rips, and disengagement moves that suggest advanced development. His heavy hands are a real weapon, capable of knocking a tackle off balance with a single punch. He collapses pockets quickly and is relentless in pursuit, rarely giving up on a play.
His Hudl tape reveals several reps where he simply walks linemen back into the backfield with raw torque and leverage. That level of domination at the high school level often comes from players far older, but Tavizon already looks college-ready with his lower-body drive and upper-body shock.
Run Defense
In run support, Tavizon is equally dominant. He uses his reach and hand placement to set the edge consistently. His awareness stands out—he rarely overcommits and shows strong discipline staying outside to force runs back inside. When plays come to him, he stacks and sheds efficiently and makes strong, square tackles. His ability to disengage quickly and maintain balance allows him to chase ball carriers sideline-to-sideline, an uncommon trait for a player of his size.
Motor & Intangibles
Tavizon is a relentless competitor. His motor runs hot from whistle to whistle, and that’s not coach-speak—it’s evident in every rep. Whether he’s rushing the passer, dropping in a zone assignment, or cleaning up a screen, Tavizon finishes plays with urgency. That effort combined with his physical tools creates a player who simply overwhelms lesser opponents. His toughness and physicality also help separate him from others in this deep EDGE class.
Lincoln has produced its share of college talent over the years, but sources close to the program believe Tavizon could be the most complete defensive prospect the school has produced in over a decade.
Recruitment & Projection
Ranked No. 211 overall by Rivals and No. 28 among EDGE defenders, Tavizon is a blue-chip talent whose stock will likely continue to rise.
Tavizon had originally planned to visit USC, Texas A&M, and Texas, and those visits could still happen. However, his commitment to Oregon is rooted in more than just football—he's spoken highly of the natural beauty of Eugene, the trees, the air, and the welcoming environment he experienced on multiple visits. That connection, along with a close bond with Oregon staff and former teammate Akili Smith Jr., could help the Ducks hold firm if others try to push late.
College Comparison & Fit
Tavizon fits the mold of a Dan Lanning EDGE—physically imposing, technically advanced, and high-motor. His skillset projects well into a hybrid defensive front where he can stand up on the edge, put a hand in the dirt, or even slide inside on obvious passing downs. He’s reminiscent of former Georgia and current Eagles EDGE Nolan Smith, with a bit more mass already on his frame at this stage.
If he continues on this trajectory, Tavizon has All-Conference upside and the potential to be a future NFL Draft pick.
Bottom Line
Prince Tavizon is not just a big early win for Oregon in the 2027 class—he’s a foundational piece. His explosive first step, brute strength, pass rush arsenal, and relentless motor make him one of the most impactful young defenders on the West Coast. With continued development, he could emerge as one of the elite EDGE defenders in the nation by the time signing day arrives. This is the kind of commitment that championship defenses are built around.
