This is not a big recruiting weekend in Eugene if you are counting names on a visit list. It is a big one if you are paying attention to where Oregon’s board stands at a few very important spots.
There are weekends built on volume and there are weekends built on significance. This one is the latter.
One key visitor matters because of what Oregon wants to do at quarterback in this cycle and because of what already happened elsewhere this week. A couple of others matter because they fit the exact kind of traits Oregon has prioritized at their positions. And one of the younger names coming to town is the type of prospect that reminds you why staff are forced to think two and even three moves ahead now.
So no, this is not one of those weekends where Oregon rolls out a giant list and tries to win the numbers game. This feels more targeted than that. More deliberate. And in some ways, those weekends can tell you more.
The Ducks will host one of the most important visitors on their board this weekend. And if you read my Monday notes, you already know why that carries a little more weight than usual.
