Recruiting rarely moves in a straight line, and weekends like this one are a good reminder of why.
Oregon went into Stillwater with plenty of momentum and came home with the kind of loss that creates questions almost everywhere around a program. Some of those questions are immediate and obvious. Others take a little longer to sort out, particularly in recruiting, where one game can generate plenty of noise without necessarily changing much underneath it. That was the part I wanted to understand after Saturday.
I checked around with people connected to Oregon’s 2027 class, spent some time going back through film from several of the Ducks’ current commits and looked at the places where there might actually be something worth watching as the fall continues. The reaction to the Oklahoma State loss was about what you would expect — disappointment, surprise and a belief that Oregon needs to respond — but there was not much evidence that one bad afternoon had suddenly altered how the class sees the program.
The more interesting development came elsewhere. One of Oregon’s highest-profile commits spent the weekend back in familiar territory, visiting the program that was once considered one of the Ducks’ biggest threats in his recruitment. That does not mean the sky is falling, but it does give us something more meaningful to examine than the usual post-loss speculation.
