TAKE ONE: Fit Over Flash
Working on a budget that does not match the elite tier of college basketball is going to hamstring Dana Altman and Oregon to some degree. We saw that last season. When more than 60 percent of the budget is tied up in three players, there is no slack left in the roster. No room for injuries. No room for load management. No room for the kind of in-season flexibility that good teams need just to survive the grind.
And when those three players, on the whole, are not at the level of the top three on most elite rosters, staying even competitive becomes a chore.
