The more I look at Oregon’s defensive back recruiting board coming out of spring, the more it feels like the Ducks are operating from a position of strength rather than urgency.
That is an important difference. A year or two ago, recruiting defensive backs felt more like a need to patch holes, raise the floor and make sure the room could survive against the best passing attacks on the schedule. Now the conversation feels different. Oregon already has a secondary loaded with young talent, returning production and high-end additions, which means this staff can afford to be more selective. The Ducks do not have to chase every big name just to stack bodies. They can be deliberate. They can focus on fit, traits, long-term upside and which players make the most sense for the culture and structure they have built in the room.
That does not mean Oregon is slowing down at defensive back. If anything, it means the Ducks can recruit the position even smarter. They already landed key pieces, they are still pushing for more, and the board itself is starting to show a clearer strategy. Some names have come off the table. Some have become bigger priorities.
