One of the things that changes when the season starts is recruiting becomes a little more real.
Spring visits and summer camps matter. Official visits matter even more. But there is still something different about bringing a recruit into Autzen Stadium when it is full, Oregon is playing a meaningful football game and the player can see what the program looks like when everything is operating at once.
Oregon gets its first opportunity to do that Saturday against Boise State, and the visitor list is a good one.
There are really two stories here. The first is the number of 2027 Oregon commits coming back to Eugene together. Oregon currently has 25 commitments in a class ranked No. 4 nationally and No. 1 in the Big Ten by the Rivals Industry Ranking. The second, and probably more interesting story for the long term, is the 2028 group. Oregon is still building the foundation of that class, and the Ducks will have prospects from just about every major area of the board inside Autzen.
Rankings are going to move considerably for the 2028 players over the next year, and the services do not agree on all of them right now. I am much more interested in which players Oregon is bringing to Eugene this early, how they fit what the Ducks have been recruiting and which relationships appear to be moving beyond the offer stage.
That makes this weekend worth watching.
