Oregon did not need to take Josh Christensen just because he was local.
That is probably the best place to start.
The Ducks already had a strong defensive front group in the 2027 class. Rashad Streets gives Oregon a five-star edge prospect with major production. Cameron Pritchett brings another high-level edge profile. Zane Rowe gives the class more defensive line flexibility. Sam Ngata is listed by some as a linebacker, but his long-term projection could also include outside backer and edge possibilities.
So when Oregon made room for Christensen, it said something.
The Ducks were not just checking a local box. They were betting on the frame, the movement skills, the growth curve and the idea that his best football is still in front of him.
That is the most important part of this evaluation.
Christensen is not the same player on his junior tape that he was as a freshman. He is not even quite the same player he was as a sophomore. The Lake Oswego defensive lineman has continued to grow into his body, grow into his role and grow into the type of projection that became more difficult for Oregon to ignore.
He is still a developmental defensive lineman in some ways. There are technical areas to clean up. There is a positional question to answer. There is more strength to add and more pass-rush polish needed before he is ready to become a consistent college contributor.
But the foundation is easy to understand.
Christensen is 6-foot-6 with the kind of length and frame that defensive line coaches like to build around. He has been productive against strong Oregon competition. He was one of the top defensive players on one of the best teams in the state. He earned first-team 6A all-state recognition and was named the Three Rivers League Defensive Lineman of the Year after finishing his junior season with 52 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, eight sacks and 24 quarterback hurries.
That is a good starting point.
The rest of the evaluation comes down to where Oregon believes it can take him.
