George VanSandt is the kind of tight end evaluation that makes more sense when you look beyond the box score or the number of targets.
Central Catholic is not built around throwing the ball all over the field. Much like the Ducks saw when Riley Landgraf was there, this is a run-first operation that asks its tight ends to do real football work. VanSandt is not being showcased every week as a detached slot target or a big receiver in a tight end body. He is asked to attach to the formation, block on the edge, pull across the formation, lead through traffic and do some of the less glamorous work that actually translates to the college position.
That is why this evaluation is interesting.
VanSandt’s tape does not show a massive receiving sample, but it shows a player who is already comfortable with physical responsibility. He looks like a tight end who has been trained to understand his assignment, finish blocks and stay connected to the play. That matters at Oregon because the Ducks are not recruiting tight ends just to stand in the slot and create matchup problems in the red zone. They want players who can force defenses to treat 12 personnel as both a run and pass threat.
VanSandt gives Oregon that kind of developmental foundation.
