The spring game numbers should not be taken too literally, but the way Oregon’s defensive linemen talked afterward made the bigger point clear. The Ducks believe this front can be different.

Dan Lanning was not ready to turn Oregon’s spring game sack total into a sweeping declaration. That was predictable. It was also fair.

The Ducks were not tackling quarterbacks live. The playbook was limited. The offensive line was mixed and matched. Some key players were limited. Spring games create numbers that can mislead as easily as they can reveal.

So when Lanning was asked about Oregon’s 12 sacks and 13 tackles for loss, he started with caution.
