There are weeks when Second Level naturally becomes almost entirely about recruiting. Visitor lists, conversations coming out of Autzen Stadium and whatever movement Oregon created over the weekend usually provide enough material to carry the entire piece. This was never going to be one of those weeks because a road trip to USC meant there was no collection of recruits walking through the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex afterward, no home-game atmosphere to dissect and no list of prospects leaving Eugene talking about what they had just experienced.
What Oregon players said after Saturday night’s 41-27 win created something different and, in some ways, more revealing. Nearly every player interview was conducted with two Ducks sitting together, allowing teammates from opposite sides of the ball to describe the same emotional moments from different perspectives. There was Brandon Finney Jr. and Evan Stewart talking about the response after Dante Moore went down, Dakorien Moore and Teitum Tuioti describing the same moment through the lens of leadership and preparation, and Dylan Raiola and Dierre Hill Jr. explaining why Oregon’s offense did not have to suddenly become something different when the quarterback changed.
Then Dan Lanning managed to work recruiting into the conversation anyway, which is probably as good a place as any for a special post-USC edition of Second Level.
