As we head into the first full week of July, the attention at DSC will begin to split a little more between recruiting and the upcoming football season.
That is why this week I will also have a 3-2-1 look at the 2026 season, with three games to watch, two surprise breakout players and one big question that could shape the year.
But recruiting is not exactly ready to move quietly into the background.
Anthony Cartwright’s commitment on Sunday gave Oregon another important piece in the 2027 class, and it may have also served as the opening shot for what could become one of the more important weeks of the cycle. The Ducks have already done a lot of work in this class. They have added numbers, built positional structure and continued to show that the June official visit window was not just about getting prospects to campus.
It was about closing.
Cartwright was the latest example. Oregon had been trending well there, and his commitment gives the Ducks a second tight end in the class alongside George VanSandt. More importantly, it gives Oregon the kind of bigger pass-catching tight end who can be moved around, developed physically and eventually fit into the multiple personnel world this staff wants to live in offensively.
That matters because once a position starts to feel settled, the staff can turn more of its attention elsewhere.
And there are several places where Oregon still has work to do.
The next few days could bring clarity at defensive back. They could bring clarity along the offensive line. They could bring movement at wide receiver. And with Xavier Sabb still sitting out there without a public commitment date, this is one of those weeks where the board may not wait for us to catch our breath.
The fireworks may not be finished.
They may just be starting.
