Scouting Report: Avery Michael

Avery Michael — Offensive Tackle — 2027 Commit to Oregon

Vitals
• Height: 6-foot-6 (range)
• Weight: 295–305 pounds (projected growth frame)
• Position: Left Tackle
• Graduation: December enrollee, Spring arrival at Oregon

Athletic Profile

Avery Michael checks every box you look for in a modern Power 4 offensive tackle. He has elite length, long arms, and the kind of lower-body flexibility that immediately separates true tackle prospects from interior-only projections. He explodes out of his stance with purpose, carries his weight well, and shows rare ease of movement for a player with his frame.

What stands out most on both sophomore and junior film is how naturally he moves in space. His feet are light, his hips are loose, and his balance stays intact through contact. He does not look like a lineman surviving snaps. He looks like one controlling them. That combination of mobility and strength is why he profiles as a true left tackle long-term rather than a developmental swing piece.

Technical and On-Field Traits

• Run Blocking:
Michael is violent at the point of attack. He fires his hands with intent, generates real displacement, and finishes blocks with authority. He consistently wins first contact, then keeps driving his feet to erase defenders from the play. At the second level, he moves comfortably, squares up linebackers, and plays with a finisher’s mentality that shows up snap after snap.

• Pass Protection:
This is where Michael’s ceiling really shows. He has the foot speed, balance, and body control to stay on the left side against high-level edge rushers. His kick slide is smooth and controlled, his base stays wide, and he does a good job staying patient rather than oversetting. His length allows him to disrupt rush plans early, and his anchor strength makes it difficult for defenders to collapse the pocket.

• Hand Usage and Leverage:
Heavy hands, strong grip, and good independent usage. He routinely stuns defenders on initial contact and is able to re-fit when necessary. His pad level continues to improve, and when he plays low, he becomes extremely difficult to move.

Competitive Makeup and Durability

As a junior, Michael started every game and rarely left the field. He plays with consistency, composure, and confidence, showing the stamina and mental focus coaches want in a cornerstone lineman. His goals are clearly defined: win championships at Turlock High, win a national title at Oregon, and eventually play in the NFL. That clarity shows in his approach and effort.

Developmental Trajectory

Michael is already advanced technically, but his best football is still ahead of him. With continued strength development and refinement in hand placement and pad level, his ceiling rises significantly. His frame still has room to add functional mass without sacrificing mobility, which should only enhance his power profile once he enters a college strength program.

The December graduation and early enrollment give him a head start, allowing him to acclimate physically and mentally ahead of his class. That timeline matters for a tackle with real long-term upside.

Recruiting and Context

Rated as a three-star offensive tackle by both Rivals and 247, Michael currently sits at No. 34 OT nationally per 247 and No. 58 OT in the most recent Rivals rankings for the 2027 class. Those rankings are widely expected to climb following his junior film and the surge of Power 4 offers that came after the season.

He was named the 2025 Central California Athletic League Outstanding Offensive Lineman and earned Bee All-District honors, validating what shows up clearly on tape.

Football runs deep in his family. His father, Alex, was a Division I offensive lineman at Southern Miss, starting every game of his senior season, while his mother, Courtney, was a standout pitcher for the softball program. That background shows up in Avery’s fundamentals, toughness, and understanding of the position.

Projection and Fit at Oregon

Michael projects as a true left tackle at the Big Ten level. He has the length, footwork, and temperament to handle elite edge rushers, and his skill set aligns cleanly with Oregon’s long-term offensive line vision. While versatility always adds value, his ceiling is highest staying outside, where his athleticism and reach can be fully leveraged.

He is the type of tackle you build around, not move around.

Summary

Avery Michael is a prototypical tackle prospect with legitimate high-end upside. He combines elite length, mobility, strength at the point of attack, and a finishing mindset with the technical foundation to stay at left tackle long-term. As his body continues to mature and his technique sharpens, his ranking profile is likely to rise accordingly.

For Oregon, he represents a future anchor on the edge and a developmental success story waiting to happen.
