QUAAAACK: Davon Benjamin to Oregon

Commit Impact: Davon Benjamin Joins Oregon’s 2026 Class as the Top Cornerback in America

Oregon’s 2026 recruiting class just landed its cornerstone in the secondary.

On the heels of a major recruiting weekend that featured the commitment of elite Mobile (AL) EDGE Anthony “Tank” Jones, the Ducks followed up with another national splash by securing a verbal pledge from Davon Benjamin, the No. 1-ranked cornerback in the country and the No. 22 overall prospect in the Rivals250 for the 2026 cycle.

Benjamin, a California native, has been Oregon’s top target at cornerback for well over a year. The Ducks have long prioritized the versatile, twitchy defender, building a strong relationship with Benjamin and his camp. That patience and persistence paid off as Oregon now adds the most complete cornerback prospect in the nation to a class that was notably without a pure outside corner until now.

Standing out on both sides of the ball in high school—and on special teams—Benjamin projects primarily as a lockdown outside corner at the next level. His film shows elite man coverage ability, rare fluidity, and tremendous instincts. He’s a ballhawk with the mentality of a safety and the footwork of a true cover corner. In 2024, he tallied six interceptions—three of which he returned for touchdowns—while adding over 800 yards of combined offense and return yardage.

But make no mistake—this commitment is about defense.

With Oregon set to transition into a new-look secondary over the next two seasons, Benjamin is the first true boundary cornerback in the 2026 class and fills a glaring positional need. While the Ducks have assembled elite talent at safety and nickel in recent cycles, the search for a long-term shutdown outside corner led the staff to identify Benjamin as priority No. 1. His commitment gives Oregon a national-caliber answer at the position.

This also sends a message.

Coming just two days after the Ducks reeled in a pledge from five-star EDGE Anthony “Tank” Jones, the addition of Benjamin punctuates a weekend of recruiting momentum that solidifies Oregon’s presence at the top of the national recruiting landscape. The Ducks are not just stacking blue-chip talent—they’re doing so strategically, locking in elite prospects at premium positions in the trenches and on the back end.

Benjamin’s commitment reinforces Oregon’s philosophy of building a defense that is fast, physical, and fundamentally elite. With Jones setting the edge and Benjamin locking down the boundary, the Ducks are crafting the kind of unit that can go toe-to-toe with the top offenses in the Big Ten.

And with the nation’s top cornerback now in the fold, the Ducks are just getting started.
