Friday Recruiting Nuggets

There is not a lot of recruiting information right now as the staff has been very focused on camp this year. With so many new and young players, getting ready for the season took a lot more focus, but we are starting to see a little bit more stuff on the recruiting front. Will try to share the things I hear and my thoughts on those things when I can.

With that said, here is this week's edition of Recruiting Nuggets

RECRUITING NOTES:

-          I know that Tom Loy mentioned Oregon is ‘still in contact’ with Ryder Lyons and he could potentially visit this fall, but I am going to say that everything I have heard matches what Steve Wiltfong said following that report by Loy – the Ducks love what they have with Bryson Beaver and are not going to get back into the Lyons sweepstakes.

Generally speaking, there are components of the package BYU offered that simply will not be offered by Oregon. I think when Lyons comes back from his mission, there will certainly be some thoughts on the topic, but as of right now the guys being recruited for 2027 class at QB do not include Lyons.

-          There will not be much in the way of visitors for Montana State. As of now I have only been able to conform one – 2027 QB Dane Weber. Rivals/On3 has Weber listed as the No 16 QB and No. 90 overall player in the nation. This will be the first time Weber has been to Eugene.

-          There will be plenty of talk about flips as the season goes along and I think we will see some, but maybe not as many as in past seasons. The contracts that are being signed change a lot about how recruiting will look in the future. There will, of course, be teams that underperform and players that decide that they want to be with a team that has playoff potential.

-          Oregon is not going to go too heavily into trying to flip too many people. They still want to add on OL, DL, and WR to the class and are looking at a few candidates there, but I would not expect a ton of flips on either side of the ball at this point. Things can change, but that is the way it looks heading into the first game week preparation.

-          The biggest visit weekend is going to be for the USC game and I would imagine that there will be even more that are added to the list. When we get bigger weekends I will put up a visitor list.

-          In an interview with Adam Gorney, 2027 OL Lex Mailangi – who had long called Oregon the leader said that the communication with Oregon had ‘slowed down a little bit.’

This is a little bit the nature of the beast in some ways. I would expect Oregon’s efforts to pick up some once the staff gets past this week’s finish of fall camp.

-          On the basketball front, Abdou Toure, a high four-star prospect in the 2026 class, has narrowed his list of schools down to seven, including Oregon.

-          Elite point guard Taylen Kinney (6-1, 185) out of Atlanta (GA) also narrowed his list to eight schools including Oregon. He is set to visit Eugene on the weekend of the Oklahoma State game. Kinney is the # 12 player in the nation for the 2026 class according to 247.
