Scouting Report: Jett Washington

Vitals: Class: 2026 Height/Weight: 6’5”, 210 lbs Ranking: No. 78 overall, No. 5 Safety (Rivals)

Overview

Jett Washington is a rare, high-ceiling defensive prospect from powerhouse Bishop Gorman, with the physical traits and versatility to thrive in multiple roles at the next level. Already standing 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds with elite range, Washington can function as a true safety, a hybrid linebacker, or even match up against flex tight ends and slot receivers. He was named MaxPreps Nevada Player of the Year after a standout junior season (38 tackles, 5 INT, 2 PBU, 1 FF) on one of the nation’s best defenses. With a multi-sport background and elite testing markers, Washington projects as a future impact defender with NFL potential.

Athletic Profile & Skill Set

Washington combines elite length, straight-line speed, and physicality, making him a modern “chess piece” defender. He erases ground quickly in coverage and triggers downhill in the run game with force. His ball skills are excellent for a player his size, evidenced by his five interceptions as a junior. He plays with an aggressive edge and is a willing, heavy hitter when the opportunity presents itself. Though not the most fluid mover laterally, his long stride and recovery speed allow him to blanket space and close on targets. He is also a proven two-way athlete, having starred on the hardwood (13 ppg, state champion) and worked at receiver during Gorman’s offseason Pro Day.

Progression by Season

Freshman Season: Saw early varsity action as both a defensive back and wide receiver. Showed flashes of physical tools and open-field speed. Play recognition was raw, but natural instincts were apparent.

Sophomore Season: Became a key starter with 37 tackles and two interceptions. Grew more confident as an enforcer near the line of scrimmage. Began to show improved discipline in coverage reads and positioning.

Junior Season: Breakout campaign as a true defensive leader. Played faster and with more urgency. Demonstrated vastly improved ball skills, range, and open-field tackling. Comfortable working in both single-high and two-high looks, with more confidence in man-matchups against bigger receivers and tight ends. Became a consistent playmaker on a loaded Gorman roster.

Still developing instincts in pattern-matching and route anticipation.

Man Coverage Consistency:
Has length and tools but will need to polish technique in press and off-man situations.

Projection

Washington projects as a multi-year starter with All-Conference and NFL Draft potential. His size and versatility fit perfectly into modern defenses that prioritize flexibility and length. Early on, he could contribute on special teams and in sub-packages, but long-term, he profiles as a true difference-maker in Oregon’s defense. His upside is among the highest in the 2026 class, and under Dan Lanning and Tosh Lupoi, he should develop into a featured weapon on the defensive side of the ball.

Final Word: Jett Washington is the kind of rare athlete that can reshape the ceiling of a defense. His unique frame, multi-role versatility, and aggressive mentality give Oregon another high-end piece to build around on that side of the ball. As his processing and transition skills catch up with his physical tools, Washington could develop into one of the most dynamic defenders to come through Eugene in the Lanning era.
